Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
